Soroptimist International of Coeur d’Alene, chartered in 1948 as the first civic service group for women, works to better the lives of women and girls in our local community.

With an international purpose to enable women and girls to take control of their lives and live their dreams, Soroptimist represents women at their best, striving to help other women be their best.

Soroptimist annually presents Women of Distinction awards to women whose achievements and dedication to community service set them apart. Soroptimist is actively seeking nominations for deserving women in the community. Award nomination categories include arts and culture, business and professional, community service, education, health, public service and senior. Nomination forms are available at www.sicda.org or by contacting committee chair Angie Comstock at 208-755-9661. The nomination deadline is today.

Soroptimist will host the 38th annual Women of Distinction Awards Ceremony on Nov. 20 at 11:30 a.m. at a local venue to be determined. Proceeds from the event help support local women and girls through monetary awards and scholarships.

"I used the Live Your Dream award to purchase a laptop and a printer that I needed with more online classes," Soroptimist 2019 Live Your Dream scholarship winner Peggy Gunther said. "I used what was left for fuel to classes prior to going remote in February and to upgrade to a faster internet option for the home.”

Longtime Soroptimist Barb Bradley said that "listening to the stories of the winners over the years reinforces the fact that there are many unsung women in our community performing good works and changing lives every day.”

Angie Comstock, Committee Chair for many years, said she is grateful for the opportunity to chair this event and recognize women in the community while raising funds to support women and girls.

"The impact this fundraiser has on our Live Your Dream winners cannot be understated," she said.
