POST FALLS — Not even the cooler temperatures could set back Coeur d’Alene Charter in its state tournament opener.
Sarah Hines had a hat trick and four assists — all in the first half — for the four-time state 3A champion Panthers in an 11-0 win over the Kimberly Bulldogs at The Fields at Real Life Ministries on Thursday.
“It was cold and the ball was wet and fast, but nobody told these girls that,” fifth-year Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Stacy Smith said. “They came out ready to play and played well.”
Cadence Wilson had a goal and two assists for Coeur d’Alene Charter (14-1-1), which faces McCall-Donnelly (10-0-0) in the semifinals today at The Fields starting at 1 p.m.
McCall-Donnelly beat Teton 4-0 in an opening round match.
“Sarah and Cadence combined up top quite a bit early to give us a strong lead,” Smith said. “I think that helped us settle any nerves. We were able to string together some great combinations and really just possess. I’m incredibly pleased with the ball movement of my players, despite the frosty field.”

POST FALLS — Playing its home games paid off in a big way for the Panther boys at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.
Knowing the tendencies of the artificial turf, they knew some of the breaks the ball might give.
And then, they got them.
Cooper Hancock scored two goals, both on assists from Jordan Gallegos as the Panthers beat the Vandals in the opening round of the state 3A tournament. It is the program’s first win at state in its second trip.
“The way the ball was moving, the wing kind of opened up,” second-year Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Justin Nitti said. “Jordan had been a little faster, and he was able to find Cooper, who was in the right spot at the right time, and put it away.”
Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-4-3) faces Sun Valley Community School (7-3-0) in the semifinals today at 4 p.m.
McCall-Donnelly (6-2-0) faces American Falls (6-3-0) in a loser-out game.
