PREP VOLLEYBALL: Post Falls bounces back into play-in match

POST FALLS — Kylie Munday had 15 kills, 13 assists and four blocks for top-seeded Post Falls in a 25-17, 25-15, 20-25, 25-20 win over the third-seeded Lake City Timberwolves in the 5A Region 1 second-place match on Thursday at The Arena.

Maya Blake had 14 kills and 18 digs, Brooke Minden 29 assists, Kamden Fiddes eight blocks, Claire Holding 16 digs and two aces and Brielle Nagel 15 digs for Post Falls (16-3), which faces either Boise or Kuna in a state play-in match on Saturday at Grangeville High.

“I was really proud of how the girls responded after Tuesday’s loss,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. “I was really proud of their mental toughness all year. We moved well, passed the ball well and ran our defense really, really well tonight.”

Hanah Stoddard had 13 kills, 20 assists and two aces, Nellie Reese seven kills and 21 assists, Hannah Rowan seven kills and nine digs, Brenna Hawkins nine kills and Tanai Jenkins six kills and four blocks for Lake City, which finishes 7-5.

“It’s been two weeks since we’ve played together,” said first-year Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg, who had three starters back from a 14-day quarantine for the match. “It took us a while to find a rhythm, and then it was too late. I’m proud of how hard they fought to come back. Willow is a phenomenal coach, and they just outplayed us tonight.”

PRIEST RIVER — The second-seeded Panthers eliminated the fourth-seeded Badgers with a 25-19, 25-19, 27-25 win in a loser-out game in the 3A District 1 tournament at Priest River High.

No statistics were available.

“We passed the ball really well and then fell apart for a bit,” Coeur d’Alene Charter coach Cindy Beyer said. “But we did a good job of keeping the ball in play and didn’t make any major errors.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (8-5) will face Timberlake in the second-place game at Holy Family Catholic School on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Timberlake

KELLOGG — Sami Wilfong had 24 assists, seven digs and four kills for the third-seeded Tigers, who fell short to the top-seeded Wildcats 25-18, 22-25, 24-26, 25-8, 15-13 in the 3A District 1 championship at Andrew Gymnasium.

Timberlake (6-10) will face second-seeded Coeur d’Alene Charter at Holy Family Catholic School on Saturday at 6 p.m. for the district’s second berth to state starting next Friday at Twin Falls High.

Jaycie Pratt had 10 kills and 11 kills, McKennah Kronenberg six blocks, four kills and two aces, Brooke Jessen eight kills, three assists and eight digs and Braylee Pratt 11 digs for Timberlake.

Kellogg (13-2) opens at state next Friday at noon against the winner of Saturday’s play-in match in Pocatello.

ST. MARIES — Kirsten Miller had 10 kills and four blocks as the topseeded Lumberjacks defeated the secondseeded Maniacs 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 in the first match of a best-of-3 series for the 2A District 1-2 championship.

Match 2 is Saturday at noon. Match 3, if necessary, would follow.

Mackenzie Hammond had 24 assists for St. Maries (8-4), and Sami Badgett had 19 digs and two aces.

Earlier Thursday, Orofino (7-3) eliminated Grangeville (1-7) with a four-set victory.

Lakeside

WALLACE — Kria Peters had 22 assists, three blocks and three kills for the Knights, who came up short to the Miners 25-8, 17-25, 25-8, 28-26 in the 1A Division I District 1 championship at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Martina Rivera had three aces and nine straight service points for Lakeside, which fell behind 16-8 before ralling to take a 17-16 lead in the fourth set. “When we were down, I’d used my last timeout, and the girls rallied and came back into the match,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “The girls played their hearts out tonight. I was very, very proud of how they played tonight. I wish Wallace the best of luck at state.”

Arianna Havier-Gorr had seven digs for Lakeside, which finishes 4-7.

Wallace (11-4) opens at state against the winner of Saturday’s play-in game between Oakley and the third-place team from District 3 (Boise area) next Friday at noon at Jerome High.

MULLAN — The Wampus Cats (12-2) swept the Tigers (7-5) 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 in the 1A Division II District 1 championship match at the Mullan Pavilion to claim the North Star League’s lone berth to state Oct. 30-31 at Burley High.
