PLATFORMS: Oversight is needed

| October 23, 2020 1:00 AM

I am not for more government control in our lives, yet in this instance possibly we need it. I am referring to Google, Facebook and Twitter.

The story in the New York Post about Hunter Biden and his emails detailing his corruption using his name for monetary gain, with his dad’s knowledge.

If Twitter can terminate the president’s spokesperson from their site, what do you think they can do to you, the average citizen? Talk about censorship. This has nothing to do with the left or right or your personal beliefs. It is all about big companies setting up their own arbitrary standards of what is right or wrong and controlling only what they think you should know.

If we the people are going to use these platforms, then there needs to be some accountability by the people who run them. No question, things like hate speech, calling for violence are obvious things anyone would be against and they should not be broadcast on these platforms.

We all know that just because something is on the internet does not make it true and the same is true for what is printed in newspapers. Unfortunately, many newspapers stopped printing the news fairly and only print what they think is in their political best interest. If newspapers can print what they want, why should citizens using these platforms be denied the same right?

Twitter, Facebook and Google have become too big and threaten all of us.
