VEHICLE FEE: Long time to pay

I’m hoping all Kootenai County voters read the County Transportation Funding Measure on the ballot carefully. The additional $50 registration fee is for a duration of 20 years! This, on top of the current $53.50 fee.

So, for every vehicle in your household you’re looking at potentially paying $103.50 per vehicle per year. Again, for the next 20 years.

And do you think the current $53.50 portion of the fee will remain the same? I can almost guarantee you this will increase incrementally, indefinitely.

Also, do you think the new $50 fee will really expire in 2040? Perhaps. But there will always something new to be funded. Think in terms of school bond ballot initiatives; no more does one near its expiration than another one is promoted and voted upon.
