Walter Cash Daskam, 85

Walter Daskam, 85, beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on Oct. 10, 2020. Walter was born on June 23, 1935, in Stamford, Conn., to parents, Harry and Marian Cash Daskam. He had one brother, Harry Daskam, who is now deceased.

After graduating from high school, Walter enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps after serving 20 years in service to our country. He served several tours of duty in Vietnam and South Korea. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Walter finished his college education and worked for the United States Department of Agriculture.

On June 4, 1983, Walter married the love of his life, Donna Mae Goodpastor, who passed away in 2019. The couple moved to Spokane, Wash., and later retired in Hayden, Idaho. Donna and Walter loved to travel and both shared a special fondness for Hawaii, where they spent a portion of every winter. They were both active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d'Alene and Walter was a lifetime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Walter will be forever missed by his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, charitable gifts may be given to the Sacred Heart Children's Hospital, 101 W. Eighth Ave., Spokane, WA 99204 (washington.providence.org) in Walter's name.

Walter is survived by his niece, Suzanne Daskam Schutze; her husband, Tim, and daughter, Grace. He is also survived by Donna's brother, Virgil Goodpastor and his family.

A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2020, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 812 N. Fifth St., Coeur d'Alene, with a graveside service with military honors following, at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens.
