PREP ROUNDUP: St. Maries wins CIL volleyball title

ST. MARIES — Mackenzie Hammond had 18 assists and five aces as the St. Maries Lumberjacks beat the Orofino Maniacs 19-25, 25-20, 25-11, 25-14 on Monday night to capture the Central Idaho League volleyball championship.

Taci Watkins had eight kills, Sami Badgett 13 digs, Jayden Martin two blocks for St. Maries (7-4, 4-0 CIL).

Kaycee Hudson had 18 digs, Grace Beardin five blocks, Sydnie Zywina three aces for Orofino (6-2, 2-2).

The 2A District 1-2 tournament begins Thursday at top-seeded St. Maries. Second-seeded Orofino plays third-seeded Grangeville at 6 p.m., and the loser plays St. Maries in the match to follow.

The tourney continues Saturday at noon, with the district champion advancing to state Oct. 30-31 at Buhl High.
