Then, the wait began.

Caleb Harris scored in the fifth round of a penalty kick shootout, giving the Tigers a 2-1 win over top-seeded Bonners Ferry at The Fields at Real Life Ministries on Friday.

POST FALLS — A quick start and enough in the final 40 minutes was plenty to put the Tigers back in the state 3A tournament for the sixth time in seven seasons, beating the Bulldogs in a 3A District 1-2 semifinal match at The Fields at Real Life Ministries.

Kayli Lynn and Charley Hegstad scored first half goals for Timberlake — both assisted by Kiersten Sawley — to take a 2-0 lead at halftime. Sawley’s goal in the 42nd minute extended the lead to 3-0.

“We came out fast and charged up,” said Timberlake coach Steve Michael, who started the program in 2008. “Grangeville beat us in this match last year, so it’s nice to get back (to state) this year. I told the girls never to take these moments for granted.”

Bonners Ferry played through every minute. My upperclassmen who have been here before showed excellent leadership and I’m very proud of my three seniors. I’m happy they have another opportunity to have a run at state.”
