PREP ROUNDUP: Kellogg captures second straight Intermountain League title

KELLOGG — The Kellogg Wildcats captured their second straight Intermountain League volleyball title Thursday night, outlasting the Timberlake Tigers 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 30-28 on senior night at Andrews Gymnasium.
Kellogg (11-2, 8-0 IML) went undefeated in league for the second straight year.
Sami Wilfong had 26 assists and three aces for Timberlake (5-9, 4-4). Brooke Jessen added 16 kills, 15 digs and three blocks, Jaycie Pratt nine kills and eight digs, Braylee Pratt 10 digs.
Kellogg will open 3A District 1 tournament play Tuesday at 6 p.m. at home vs. the winner of Monday’s match pitting No. 5 Priest River (1-11) at No. 4 Bonners Ferry (4-8).
Also Tuesday, No. 3 seed Timberlake will play No. 2 Coeur d’Alene Charter Academy (7-4) at 6 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene.

OROFINO — Kirsten Miller had 15 kills and two blocks for the Lumberjacks, who recovered from a first-set loss to beat the host Maniacs 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19 to take over first place in the Central Idaho League.
Mackenzie Hammond had 27 assists for St. Maries (5-4, 2-0 CIL). Kirsten Miller had two blocks, Jayden Martin two aces.
Grace Beardin had nine kills and four blocks for Orofino (6-1, 2-1), and Riley Schwartz had 15 digs.
St. Maries plays host to Grangeville on Saturday.

Lakeside
WALLACE — Kria Peters had 16 assists and three blocks for the Knights, who fell 25-15, 25-23, 25-19 in a Scenic Idaho Conference match at Kirby Krulitz Court.
North Star Lawrence had three kills, Tyshea Twoteeth 10 digs and Arianna Havier-Gorr nine digs for Lakeside (3-6, 1-2), which finished with 28 digs as a team.
“We were picking up a lot of their balls,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “Wallace just keeps coming at you, and they hit the ball really well. We were in the right spots and got the ball up, but just couldn’t put it away. That was our best defensive effort of the season, and against a really tough team too.”
Lakeside hosts Genesis Prep to open the 1A Division I District 1 tournament on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Wallace (10-4, 4-0 SIC) will host the winner of Tuesday’s match next Thursday at 6 p.m. for the district’s lone berth to state starting Oct. 30 at Jerome High.

CLARK FORK — The host Wampus Cats swept the Jaguars 25-20, 25-13, 25-16 in nonleague play.
Genesis Prep (1-8) will play at Lakeside on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the loser-out first round of the 1A Division I District 1 tournament.
Clark Fork (10-2) will play host to Kootenai on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the loser-out first round of the 1A Division II District 1 tourney.

SANDPOINT — The Bulldogs (5-4-3) earned their first berth to state since 2017, blanking the Bears in the 4A Region 1 championship match at War Memorial Field.
The state 4A boys tournament is Oct. 22-24 at Bonneville High in Idaho Falls.
Moscow, which won the last two regional titles, saw its season end.

SANDPOINT — The second-seeded Bears upset the top-seeded and defending state champion Bulldogs in the 4A Region 1 championship match at War Memorial Field to qualify for state for the first time since 2012.
Moscow (5-2-1) advances to state Oct. 22-24 at Hillcrest High in Ammon.
Sandpoint, which had won seven straight regional titles, finishes 5-6-1.
