POST FALLS — A local man has been charged after allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend in the presence of their children.

Jose C. Sanabria Suchil, 31, is charged with attempted strangulation, a felony.

Police responded to a reported domestic dispute at a Post Falls residence the evening of Oct. 11.

Suchil and his girlfriend, with whom he has two children, reportedly argued prior to the incident.

The woman said Suchil grabbed her, picked her up and carried her into their bedroom, at which point she slapped him across the face.

She told police Suchil then pinned her against a wall, placed both hands around her neck and squeezed. She said her vision went fuzzy.

Suchil told police he pushed the woman into the bedroom, after which she slapped him. He also allegedly said he shoved her against a wall but did not pin her.

The woman had visible abrasions on her neck, according to court documents.

Police arrested Suchil at the scene.

A judge ordered that Suchil be held on $30,000 bail and issued a no-contact order between Suchil and the woman.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23.
