PREP VOLLEYBALL: St. Maries rallies past Timberlake in thriller

ST. MARIES — Mackenzie Hammond had 18 assists and four aces as the host Lumberjacks won the final two sets to edge the Tigers 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-13 in nonleague play.

Sami Badgett added 26 digs for St. Maries (4-4). Sofia Holmes had seven kills, Jayden Martin and Kirsten Miller three blocks each.

Timberlake beat St. Maries in five sets on Sept. 24.

“They are a well-coached team that made us work for the win,” St. Maries coach Rachele Fischer said. “It was a fight back and forth, and we were able to capitalize on some errors at the end.”

Jaycee Pratt had 10 kills and 19 digs for Timberlake (5-8). Brooke Jessen had 13 kills and three blocks, Sami Wilfong 32 assists, Berkeley Knight two aces.

Timberlake travels to Intermountain League champion Kellogg on Thursday.

St. Maries visits Central Idaho League-leading Orofino on Thursday.

LEWISTON — Angela Goggin had 10 kills, Madi Symons 8 as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings swept the Lewiston Bengals 25-17, 25-20, 25-14 on Tuesday night in the regular season and 5A Inland Empire League finale for both teams.

Sarah Wilkey had 22 digs and two aces for Coeur d’Alene (9-3, 4-2 5A IEL). Lauren Phillips added 16 assists, three aces and a block, Maggie Bloom 12 digs, Courtney Garwood nine assists, Skylar Burke two blocks.

Coeur d’Alene, the No. 2 seed, will play host to No. 3 Lake City (6-3, 3-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.

Lewiston (6-9, 0-6, the No. 4 seed) will play at No. 1 Post Falls (14-2, 5-1) in the other first-round game Saturday at 1 p.m.

RATHDRUM — The nonleague match was cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns.

Lake City (6-3) will play at Coeur d’Alene on Saturday in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.

Lakeland (9-6) is the top seed to the 4A Region 1 tournament, and will play in the championship match next Thursday at 6 p.m. at home vs. the winner of next Tuesday’s first-round match pitting Sandpoint and Moscow.

COEUR d’ALENE — The Panthers concluded the regular season with a five-set victory over the Badgers in Intermountain League play at Holy Family Catholic School.

Scores and statistics were not available.

Coeur d’Alene Charter (7-4, 5-3 IML) opens the 3A District 1 tournament on Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.

HARRISON FLATS — Arianna Havier-Gorr had five kills and four digs, and Tyshea Twoteeth had four kills and five digs as the visiting Knights swept the Warriors 25-14, 25-20, 25-9 in nonleague play.

Kria Peters had 18 assists, Martina Rivera four aces for Lakeside (3-5), which plays at Scenic Idaho Conference-leading Wallace on Thursday night in the regular season finale.

Kootenai (0-12) plays at Kendrick on Thursday.
