ELECTION: More than ‘that man’

| October 14, 2020 1:00 AM

“I simply cannot vote for THAT man!” I have heard this statement on an increasing frequency from those I previously felt shared a more conservative political outlook. Their solution is to not vote, switch parties or vote for some third party candidate. This is an election where we vote not for the man, but for our nation’s future.

If Trump is re-elected, we can expect four more years of brashness, arrogance, etc. However, in terms of the economy, employment, taxes, judicial conservatism and government downsizing, the man did what he said he would do. More importantly, the United States has stayed the course of a democratic republic as intended by our constitution.

If Trump is not re-elected we can still expect conflict, rudeness, angst, etc. (neither side is going to go away quietly). I believe we can also expect long-lasting detrimental consequences. To maximize their voter base and chances of victory, the Democratic Party has embraced and adopted the highlights of many liberal factions. Promises have been made, and their future fulfillment will be at the expense of us all. If this road is taken, it will veer away from the true north intended by our constitution.

This election we need to minimize emotions and vote as our heart leads us. I can put up with four more years of Donald Trump for the sake of my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
