COEUR d’ALENE — Two parents have been accused of neglecting their elementary school-aged children.

Aaron J. Eastin, 34, and Sabrina R. Eastin, 39, both of Coeur d’Alene, are both charged with injury to a child, a misdemeanor.

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare received reports that two children, ages 6 and 7, were being neglected at the Coeur d’Alene residence where the Eastin family lived. Police responded to the residence Oct. 7.

The children reportedly came to school in dirty, bad-smelling clothes and had chronic head lice that their mother refused to treat or allow the school to treat, according to court documents. One child said she couldn’t sleep because the itching was so intense, which led to her sleeping at school.

Police said the residence smelled of urine and there were animal feces on the floor, as well as trash and old food. The only working bathtub in the residence had allegedly been broken for some time.

The children appeared to be “dirty and unclean, but well fed,” according to court documents.

Both Aaron and Sabrina Eastin told police at the scene that they had recently used methamphetamine, documents said. The pair were arrested at the scene and charged with injury to a child.

Idaho Health and Welfare reportedly took custody of the children.
