WILLIAMS: Will protect Lake Cd’A
Many people have expressed concern about the long-term health of our lake, but I don’t think that concern has reached the decision makers in Kootenai County and the state capital. Shari Williams, candidate for State Senate, shares these concerns and will support efforts to keep the lake clean.
The science regarding the issue is clear: phosphorous and nitrogen are washed into the lake from a variety of sources; this stimulates plant growth which results in a decrease in oxygen levels. As everyone knows, Lake Coeur d’Alene has 75 million tons of mud at the bottom impregnated with lead, zinc and cadmium.
As the lake becomes depleted of oxygen, the heavy metals become free to migrate. When the lake water reaches that point we will have a heavily-polluted lake. The time to take action to reverse this process is now. Shari Williams, candidate for State Senate, will do that.
