Brian Drake, a local family man and chiropractor who was killed on March 12 in Bonners Ferry, was honored Monday by the "We Care Wellness Center" in Hayden.

The We Care Wellness team gathered with a few guests and the Drake family to honor and remember Brian Drake by dedicating the facility's chiropractic center in his name.

It will now be called the "Brian Drake Chiropractic Center."

The We Care Wellness Center was created to offer a more holistic approach to wellness, especially for veterans, a press release said.

One of the founding members of this team was Brian Drake, the chiropractic doctor on staff at the facility.

"Brian was one of the first to step up and commit to the vision of creating the all-encompassing facility," the release said.

"Brian's energy and heart for other people, especially our veterans, was a constant encouragement as we tried to build the We Care Wellness Center into what it is now becoming," said Director Beau Bowman. "Unfortunately, his life was cut short through a senseless act and he did not get to see his vision come to fruition."

Daniel L. Moore, 63, of Bonners Ferry, was arrested in August and charged with second-degree murder in Drake's shooting death.

"Brian's dedication and commitment helped drive us here and will never be forgotten," Bowman said. "The Chiropractic Center has been dedicated to him and his tireless quest to improve the lives of everyone he touched. Brian remains a part of our team and vision even if only in spirit."

The Chiropractic Center within We Care Wellness was recently refurbished and will be opening soon with a new chiropractic specialist.

The family expressed appreciation for so much support.

"This small gesture is a way to see Brian's legacy in action and fulfilled by changing lives every day," a statement from the family said. "He would have been very proud."
