Fill the Bus
Kootenai County has seen a 30% increase in relapse and overdose rates since March.
Kootenai Recovery Community Center is seeking donations to support its clients.
In response, the Community Library Network and Magic Bus Spokane are hosting a free, family friendly “Fill the Bus” event at Riverbend Place in Post Falls on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Oct. 11 from noon to 5 p.m.
Community members are encouraged to bring donations of non-perishable food items, snack packages, protein bars, new and gently used sleeping bags, blankets, coats, gloves, socks, caps, toothpaste and hygiene kits for all ages. All donations will go to KRCC, whose mission is to remove barriers to recovery by providing free peer-based recovery support services to individuals in the community.
“Fill the bus to support your local recovery center. When you support recovery the whole community benefits,” said Lisa Alberts, interim director of operations at KRCC.
Families and children will enjoy the library’s Discovery Bus, provided by Nick Madsen, emerging technology librarian, and Magic Bus, provided by Jerome Green, development manager for Magic Bus Spokane.
Adding some music to the event, friends of the Magic Bus will perform classic hits from soul, folk, country and rock.
Visitors will be able to wave to the Highway Heroes, who will bring out the vehicles they use to provide vital services to our community and nation on a daily basis. Trucking, public transportation and the highway patrol industries play an integral role by transporting goods, services and passengers for the economy and keeping the highway safe for motor carriers and all motorists.
Riverbend Place is at Pleasant View Road at I-90 in Post Falls.
