GROWTH: Welcome to paradise

| October 4, 2020 1:00 AM

A mini-freeway across the prairie. Welcome to paradise!

Of course we need “new” taxes to build the freeway so why not add $50 for every vehicle registration? Now we will have a mini-freeway to handle all the additional vehicles. The mini-freeway will get so busy, we will need to build a by-pass — or two — for the mini-freeway. Of course we will need to add another “tax” for every vehicle registration since there will be more cars using the mini-freeway and the by-pass.

Now we address the “need” for new hangar space at Pappy Boyington Field. Of course we need our airport to expand! Why would we want to become “exclusive” (not my word) and retain our small town feel? I’m sure the folks who bought houses that would be directly in/near the flight path of many more and larger planes would be very happy about this. Guess it doesn’t really matter that there is an “International Airport” within one hour’s drive of Coeur d’Alene. It also appears that someone involved with the airport is trying to remove some of the private pilots who house their planes and lease their hangars at our airport … something to do with expanding the airport? Somebody making money on the deal?

Controlled growth — novel idea — is one thing. What is happening to our county borders on the criminal. It won’t be long before the sign “Entering Coeur d’Alene” will be replaced with “Entering North Los Angeles!” And those responsible will be sooooooooo proud.
