Koo Ben Sho rocks 'BobCat Bootcamp'
Three adult and five youth members of the Koo Ben Sho chapter put on the Mountain Lakes District BobCat Bootcamp at the Troop 201 Scout Shack in Coeur d'Alene on Wednesday.
"This a great story of local kids helping out younger kids," wrote Shannon Laker. "This older group of boys is always ready and willing to help out. They are a really great group of kids — never hesitant to give up their plans to help out."
They had a great program teaching over 25 new Cub Scouts the promise, law, motto and other Scouting traditions required for the BobCat Badge.
Five packs were represented.
Parents participated in the BobCat test and graduation ceremony, and the evening was wonderfully warm and transitioned into a beautifully moonlit night for the program finale.
Koo Ben Sho brothers Alec Decker, James Laker, Dan Dolan, Josh Loper, and Derek McNee did an outstanding job of selfless service while instilling that spark for a new generation of Scouts.
Adult members Shannon Laker, chapter advisor Nick Theisen, and Mike Dolan, program director, assisted.
"It would great to get our OA members trained and into the Scouting community to perform this BobCat Camp as a premier service", Dolan stated. "Scouting has a program or ceremony for every other milestone in the Scouting trail — except for the most important one: a kid's first scouting experience. We aim to make BobCat Bootcamp that first experience for youth in the Mountain Lakes District. Our OA members are the perfect example for new Scouts to look up to.
