BIG R: Here’s what we fear

| November 27, 2020 1:00 AM

I feel I must respond to Donna Harvey’s “My Turn” column in Saturday’s paper.

She is certainly correct in saying that we must all endeavor to be more civil toward one another. However, I, as a “Big Republican, most strenuously object to her initial premise that I fear others because of the color of their skin, their sexual preference, their culture, their religion, or lack thereof. I do not fear those who vote differently; I fear the policies of those who say they hate this country and want to see it taken down a peg.

I believe America is, and has always been, a beacon of hope to many, particularly those in third world countries, and if it does not remain economically and militarily strong, their hope is lost.

No, I do not fear Democrats; I fear foolish policies that I believe will destroy this nation. But I also believe that God, in His great grace and mercy, will yet turn things around and set this country on a path of righteousness.

Ms. Harvey, I wish you all the best. You say you have family who served in the Revolutionary War; did you know there is a DAR chapter that meets in Hayden? We have Democrats and Republicans working congenially together to better our community, and we make it our business to never discuss politics. Feel free to contact me through the paper if you’re interested.
