Business as (UN)usual…

The Coeur d’Alene Chamber typical Business Journal of North Idaho June report clues readers into upcoming summer events. There are so many exciting events this Chamber and the entire community look forward to each summer and if this was “business as usual,” you would be reading about all those activities right now. Just plain ol’ wonderful Chamber of Commerce news.

What we can report is that this Chamber’s leadership is proactive and we are finding ways every day to share information that keeps our members updated on the current business news, latest in federal and state resources and discovering new outlets to deliver value.

One way we are doing this is through the virtual world. The Chamber’s monthly Upbeat Breakfast program is being held live every second Tuesday of the month on Facebook. Tune in June 9 at 7:30 a.m. for our speaker lineup, member stories and virtual networking. It’s catching on, especially given the early hour allowing attendees to stay in their PJ’s for viewing!

The Chamber is also hosting all the committee meetings via Zoom calls. The Coeur d’Alene Chamber supports six working committees advocating for work plans including public policy, area natural resources, education, business development, business member outreach and the Coeur d’Alene Leadership program. In addition to our monthly Upbeat and committee meetings, each Tuesday the Chamber is holding a noon Zoom meeting called Reunited Coeur d’Alene with reports from local leaders on current reopening procedures. These meetings, times and link can be found at www.cdachamber.com.

At the May Virtual Upbeat Breakfast, Laura Stensgar, CEO of the Coeur d’Alene Casino Resort Hotel, sponsored the program and the prestigious Kyle M. Walker Tourism Award was presented to past Chamber President Steve Wilson for his years of service in the tourism industry.

The award’s name is dedicated to the memory of “Mr. Coeur d’Alene” Kyle M. Walker. Kyle served as the Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce manager for 23 years (1948-1971). During his tenure, Walker, also a freelance travel writer, was successful in having his stories published in dozens of magazines. He attracted Coeur d’Alene’s first national live radio broadcast in 1953 and produced Idaho’s first color promotional movie, “Coeur d’Alene Country” in 1963, followed by “Four Seasons in Coeur d’Alene Country” in 1971.

And finally, the Chamber wishes to recognize the passing of one of its most valuable and loyal Chamber Commodores, John McGruder. John served proudly as a long-standing business member of the Chamber, a volunteer and friend to our community and was recognized as Coeur d’Alene’s Citizen of the Year by the Chamber membership. His wife, Kay, and family have this Chamber’s forever gratitude.
