Spirit Lake Community Center begins relief effort

| March 21, 2020 1:00 AM

Spirit Lake is working to provide “to go” meals for those in need.

Starting Monday, meals will be distributed between 3 and 6 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays at a drive-up window at the Spirit Lake Community Center.

“Other necessities may be requested during these times as the center will be attempting to stock various supplies for the community,” according to a press release.

Donations of cash and other items such as medical and household supplies, bottled water and baby formula are welcome.

“If demand becomes greater we will re-evaluate and post a public notice to address the needs of our community,” according to the release. “This is an unprecedented time.”

Spirit Lake City Hall is also taking steps to protect citizens, customers and staff. A glass barrier at the deputy clerk’s counter has been installed. If payments need to be made, city officials advise using the drop-box, making online payments or phone options.
