NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE WEEK: Rathdrum’s regal Radiant Lake community
Even during the final weeks of winter, Rathdrum’s Radiant Lake neighborhood has a warm-weather resort vibe. Located just east of Highway 41 on the south end of Rathdrum, the gated-community has filled consistently over the years with single-family homes and premium condominiums.
The major attraction is the waterfront. Homes in Radiant Lake surround an 8-foot-deep, 20-acre man-made lake (with fish!) that offers residents swimming and non-motorized boating opportunities. Kayaks and canoes line the waterfront property of many homes here, and the community boasts five individual waterfront parks/green spaces. Each has unique amenities, including beaches, basketball courts, volleyball, restrooms, picnic areas, etc.
Mary Lien is one of Radiant Lake’s happy residents. She and her husband moved from Post Falls to the neighborhood in 2018.
“We both wanted to be near water and Radiant Lake seemed like a great fit,” Lien said. “In summer you see so many families enjoying the lake and just being together. It’s fun here.”
New construction options in Radiant Lake are now limited. A drive around the lake uncovered two signs for available property on the waterfront. One of the active listings is a .36-acre lot priced at $140,000.
As for existing homes, there are three waterfront listings at the moment. A three-bedroom, three-bathroom home built in 2008 with almost 2,000 square feet and premium amenities like vaulted ceilings and a gas fireplace comes priced at $495,000. Then there are two four-bedroom dream homes, one with more than 2,600 square feet and another with 3,200 square feet priced at $599,000.
If you like the area but have less money and don’t need a lake, a nearby neighborhood includes two active listings for three-bedroom ranchers — one with about 1,800 square feet and the other with about 1,600 square feet — priced at $315,000 and $325,000. Just make a friend in Radiant Lake who will let you through the gate to enjoy the water.
Located just a minute off Highway 41, Radiant Lake is not only close to Rathdrum amenities, but to Post Falls and access to Interstate 90 as well. Rathdrum remains one of the more affordable options in the community even for Spokane commuters. It’s not as far from the main stretch of Coeur d’Alene-Spokane as you think.
Take a drive out to Radiant Lake and see if one of the gates are open (that’s what this writer did), or you can check out your favorite real estate app and contact one of the agents at the available homes and lots.
