Patrick Joseph Macias, 46

Patrick Joseph Macias, 46, went to Heaven surrounded by his wife, family and Chihuahua, Blueberri, on March 1, 2020, in Hospice Care in North Idaho. He battled many medical issues for years and kept up his fighting spirit until his last breath; after all, Maciases aren’t sissies!

Patrick was born June 1, 1973, in Riverside, Calif. He was a rambunctious and funny child, and his smile would light up a room. He was the apple of his Grandma Mary’s eye. In his early years he enjoyed playing baseball and was in GATE (gifted and talented education). He loved his family and had several aunts who were like second mothers to him.

He was a talented artist and earned many awards for his drawings and paintings. His talents knew no boundaries; he was always working on projects. Many people still have the crafts he made for them. He was always excited to give these gifts and loved watching people enjoy his work. His life mission was to make others smile.

Patrick loved being part of a team and the brotherhood that came with sports. He made lifelong friends wrestling and playing football. He graduated from John W. North High School in 1991 and went on to play college ball, most notably at San Bernardino Valley, Riverside Community College and Rocky Mountain College. He also played semi-pro ball with the Spokane Nightmare and Stateline Miners. Patrick was a beast on the field and a joker in the locker room. He didn’t take himself too seriously and loved talking smack.

He met his wife Carrie at Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Mont., in 1994. He moved to Liberty Lake, Wash., and then to Post Falls, Idaho, to be with her. Together they became adults and built a love and friendship that few experience. Patrick and Carrie were married in 2001 and he was her rock. In areas Carrie is weak, Patrick was strong, and vice versa. The last words he said to her were, “I love you.”

Patrick made countless friends in North Idaho; friends that were like family. He was always up for a good time and loved to make people laugh. He told the best stories and would talk as long as someone would listen. He was thoughtful and loved buying little things that he knew would brighten someone’s day.

Patrick was a collector and cherished his sports memorabilia and Star Wars collection. His displays were always well thought out. Several times a day he would go in his man-cave and just soak in the collection; checking everything out to make sure nothing was out of place.

He was an avid sports fan and loved the Seahawks, Angels, Lakers and Gonzaga.

In his short time here, he impacted so many lives and left behind a great legacy.

The last day he spoke, he told his mother-in-law “today is a special day; it’s my birthday.” He was right, he was reborn.

He leaves behind his wife, Carrie Macias; daughter, Abbryana Macias; parents Patrick and Darlene Macias; brother, Peter Macias; sister, Christa Macias; in-laws Tom and Lynn Vincent; and numerous nieces and nephews and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He was welcomed home by many who preceded him in death: grandparents, family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020, at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, followed by a reception. A smaller gathering for close friends will be held at their home at 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
