American Legion Post 143 is accepting applications from high school students for Gem Boys State scheduled June 7-12 Northwest Nazarine University in Nampa.

The deadline for applications is April 1. It will hold interviews at the American Legion Post, 1138 Poleline Ave., at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 7.

Some notable Boys State graduates include President Bill Clinton, Michael Jordan and Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo.

Boys State is described as “an experience that teaches young men about state government and how to become better leaders. As participants return to school for their senior year, they are able to take a more active role in student government.”

Tim Shaw, American Legion Post 143 spokesman, said American Legion Boys State program selects two outstanding participants each year to represent the state at American Legion Boys Nation.
