COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene Sunrise Rotary recently resented $2,000 and a framed certificate to Leslie Orth, executive director, Post Falls Food Bank.

Sunrise Rotary donated $1,000 and club funds were matched by a Rotary District grant for a local project related to COVID-19. The food bank received the actual grant check in mid-May.

“Project funds provided Plexiglas shields to protect both the shoppers and the checkers at the checkout stand from spread of the virus, thus allowing shoppers to return to some normalcy when the market reopened on May 18,” a press release said.

The remaining funds were used to purchase food to restock nearly empty shelves.

In addition to financial support, 15 Coeur d’Alene Sunrise Rotary members volunteered to stock shelves and process donated food items.

The food bank serves about 2,800 individuals each month and supports other organizations that feed the homeless and disadvantaged in Kootenai County.
