SCIENCE: Follow the facts

| June 26, 2020 1:00 AM

Kudos to the businesses that really made an effort to keep their employees and their customers safe, such as: Fred Meyer, Verizon, Panda, Costco and Paul Bunyan. I am sure there are more.

Idaho has a group of people who seem to discount science. I have seen few masks in North Idaho. However, even the experts don’t know much about this virus. No one knew much about the human papillomavirus either, but that virus is contracted by young people who have no symptoms and 20 years later cervical and penile cancers are the result. Who knows how people who contract this virus and have no symptoms will fare 20 or 30 years from now?

Science has given us the food we eat, the cars we drive, the clothes we wear, electricity, cellphones, computers, and the list goes on and on. Science has given us protection from polio, smallpox and many other illnesses. Science ensures we have clean water to drink and clean air to breathe.

Scientists are working on cures for many illnesses with which children are born. Rather than discount science, we should encourage our young people to study science. Mankind’s survival just might depend on that.
