Iconic classic cars stolen, recovered
MULLAN — Two of the Silver Valley’s most iconic classic cars were stolen then recovered Saturday morning after a lengthy chase.
Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jeff Lee reported that at approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, two individuals broke into the garage of a home owned by Cliff and Nancy Arthur in Mullan.
The Arthurs are well known to be avid classic car collectors and boast an impressive collection that includes a 1969 “General Lee” replica Dodge Charger and an orange 1970 Dodge Super Bee.
The two vehicles were stolen by the burglars. There’s a strong chance the vehicles were started with their own keys, which were in or near them at the time of theft.
Lee stated the Arthurs could hear the burglars since the noise woke them up.
As of 10:30 a.m., both cars had been recovered, but the Super Bee was in a better state than the General Lee.
Details are limited at this time, but it is believed the General Lee was recovered in Montana after the driver crashed it during a pursuit with Montana law enforcement. The extent of the damage is unknown.
The suspect who drove the General Lee has been identified, but his name is not being released at this time as law enforcement is still looking for him. This suspect fled on foot after crashing the vehicle.
The Super Bee was recovered by SCSO deputies after they conducted a traffic stop in Wallace. It is possible this car was initially involved in the Montana pursuit, but it made it back to the Silver Valley.
The individual who drove the Super Bee has been taken into custody.
This is a developing story. Information will be added as it is released.
