Jeffrey Lee Cheeseborough, 64

“Being available and accessible in order to provide encouragement, support and spiritual guidance can be the most loving, hopeful and faithful gift in the lives of our young people as they struggle to make sense of their life’s journey.”

Jeffrey Lee Cheeseborough, or “Cheese,” had a God-given gift to serve the youth and his community. From Post Falls, Idaho, he was born in Barstow Calif., Aug. 21, 1955, to Harry and Dorothy Cheeseborough (Post). He passed away at age 64, on June 8, 2020, with his family at his side, at Hospice of North Idaho.

Jeff grew up in Santa Barbara Calif., where he met and married the love of his life, Laura Kayser, on May 19, 1978. In his early years, he worked with his older brother, Kent Cheeseborough, at his hog ranch in Yettem, Calif., and then onto a boys ranch in Kaweah, Calif., where he ministered and cared for troubled youth. He also worked with Youth for Christ, and preached to gangs in Ventura, Calif.

Shortly after moving to North Idaho in 1993, he became the juvenile chaplain of Kootenai County until the last months of his life, continuing to provide spiritual guidance and support. That sparked his journey to create a nonprofit, Juvenile Justice Outreach, which, even now, sees the positive effects and results based on biblical particle teachings on how to use established coping skills to overcome maladjusted behavior.

He attended and was involved in youth ministries at Candlelight Christian Fellowship.

He enjoyed snorkeling in the Santa Barbara kelp beds and later in the lakes of North Idaho. He also loved to fish, read, talk, tell stories, art, science fiction, spending time with family and friends, speaking at schools, churches and fundraisers and most of all, teaching others about the love and gospel of Jesus Christ, his heavenly father, Lord and Savior.

Above all, Jeff loved and supported his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 40 years, Laura Cheeseborough of Post Falls; his treasured daughters, Sarah Triana and Linda Perry, and their husbands, Jason Triana and Adam Perry, of Post Falls; and his dearly adored grandchildren Ashley Carlson, Jayden and Kaylen Triana, and Ashlyn and Kaleb Perry; brothers Terry Cheeseborough and Michael Cheeseborough; his sister, Carol Ray; and a total of 16 nieces and nephews.

Those that died before him are his parents, Harry and Dorothy Cheeseborough and his older brother, Kent Cheeseborough.

The breath of life that Jeff both lived and encouraged can never adequately be left for words to express. His contributions to our community will forever endure and will be cemented in his legacy, to always be available and accessible. The period in his life story has been set, but the memory of his work and life will forever live on.

We ask that to honor Jeffs’s wishes that charitable donations be made to Juvenile Justice Outreach, 2900 N. Government Way, PMB 248, Coeur d’Alene ID, 83815.

The memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Candlelight Ministries, located at 5725 N. Pioneer Drive.

May we never forget the beloved husband, adored father and endeared grandfather he was, and we will continue his mission moving forward, holding on to the hope that is Jesus Christ; the loving arms he is found in now.
