| June 7, 2020 1:00 AM

I am the salutatorian for Timberlake Senior High Class of 2020. I will be attending the University of Idaho to pursue a bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a focus in forensics. Art is my hobby and my outlet.

Activities/clubs/sports: Art Club, National Honor Society, Knowledge Bowl, American Sign Language Club.

Hobbies: Drawing, painting, art in general, watching art on YouTube.

Favorite music: Skillet, Ledger, Avi Kaplan, Thousand Foot Krutch, Ashes Remain, Pentatonix.

Favorite school subject: I have three subjects that I really enjoy: art, math, (specifically algebra-based math) and science.

Senior quote: “Imagination is the only weapon in the war against reality.” — Lewis Carroll

What has been your proudest moment in your school career? That is so hard to choose. I have a few. When Mr. Eberlin called me in and told me I was salutatorian, when I sold artwork at my school’s Night of the Arts, working on the mural in the cafeteria, along with so many more amazing moments.

What has been the biggest challenge you overcame to become top of your class? A lot of homework!

What is one of your favorite school memories, from K-12? Probably during fourth and fifth grades when I lived in Oregon. My teacher was a goofy, out-of-the-box teacher, who really challenged me to be my best and was the adviser for an afterschool creativity program.

What are your plans for after high school? I plan on attending the University of Idaho to get my bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a focus in forensics. I also want to at least minor in fine arts. I hope to pursue a career in forensics as a laboratory technician. I would like to use my abilities in math and science to help people.

Who has been your biggest influence or your biggest cheerleader through your academic journey? My family, my church family, God and Mrs. Johnson, my art teacher for all of high school. They have been so encouraging and I would not be where I am if it wasn’t for them. Thank you so much!

What will you miss most about high school? My friends, my teachers, still being a “kid.”

What advice do you have for younger students that will help them excel in their studies? Don’t procrastinate, that leads to a snowball effect. Don't be afraid to ask for help or ask a question. Have fun in high school, too. Find the balance between schoolwork and taking a break while still maintaining your grades.

What is your legacy to your school? I worked on a mural in the cafeteria and will be painting a ceiling tile for in the art room.

Any lasting thoughts? I am so incredibly blessed to have achieved this honor! I am so grateful for everyone who has helped and supported me along the way!
