North end and Lake Drive

Neighborhood of the Week is spending the summer on the water. Last week, we explored Kidd Island Bay. This week we’re taking a broader look at the north end and Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive. Keep a lookout for more installments soon, focusing on places like Harrison, Windy Bay and the southern end.

The convenience of living by the lake but still near downtown Coeur d’Alene comes at a price. Just west of downtown and the Spokane River is Cougar Bay, with the major real estate draw in the area being The Ridge at Cougar Bay. Many of these sprawling homes and lush, wooded lots come with panoramic views of Lake Coeur d’Alene. There’s that private feeling of living in the mountains just 2 miles from the city limits (with easy access via Highway 95).

Recent listings include a 3,900-square-foot new construction home with a gorgeous lake view priced for just under $1.6 million. A couple of lots in The Ridge at Cougar Bay were recently listed at $229,000 for a half acre lake view lot, and $360,000 for a one-acre lot. Meanwhile, a 5,500-square-foot home built in 2007 in the nearby development of The Heights has all sorts of impressive fixtures and finishes priced at just under $1.3 million.

Is 2 miles still too far from civilization? You can be in town, but being near the water will cost you. Just west of the city beach is a listing in the Fort Grounds area located about two blocks from the water. The 2,700-square-foot home is priced just under $1.2 million. Previous listings on the water have gone for much more in recent years.

Another dream location for many North Idaho residents is Sanders Beach, located just east of Tubbs Hill. Rich folks can buy a five-bedroom, 6,000-square-foot home with two boat slips and a private beach for just under $4.3 million.

If you can tolerate a short walk to the public strip of Sanders Beach, there’s a two-bedroom, 2,000-square-foot home about a block from the water listed for $595,000. Two blocks from the beach is a three-bedroom home with more than 2,100 square feet listed for $624,000.

Heading east out of town on Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive, the closest recent listing to the water is a doozy. A 5,000-square-foot newly remodeled lakefront condo with a massive deck area located at The Terraces on Lake Coeur d’Alene was recently listed for just over $3.8 million. That’s a lot of dough, but boy howdy, check out the views of the lake and The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.

A few roads splinter off Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive and head up the hill to offer more incredible lake and mountain views, including inside the gated community of Syringa Grove. A one-acre lot is listed for $495,000. Head up the hill a bit more for lot options in the development of Camas Hill Estates, including a two-acre lot with territorial and lake views priced at just under $275,000. Another 3.85-acre lot in Camas Hill listed at $265,000. Don’t want to bother building? There’s a nearby seven (!) bedroom lakeview home with more than 11,000 square feet recently listed for $2.25 million. It’s big.

Maybe you don’t need that much space. In that case, a three-bedroom lakeview home with almost 4,200 square feet in Syringa Heights (a bit southeast from the previously-mentioned cluster) has plenty of cool windows and design elements, not to mention an amazing lake view. Price: $1.15 million.

Oh, did you change your mind about building again? Well, there’s also an 8-acre lot in Syringa Heights that includes 835 feet lakeshore frontage. It’s listed for just under $2 million.

We could hop across the water here at Higgens Point and head into options on Beauty Bay, or even use Highway 97 to visit Arrow Point and the Gozzer Ranch Golf and Lake Club. Or we could save that for another installment soon. Plenty more lakefront to explore. Stay tuned.
