AMERICA: A better path

| June 7, 2020 1:00 AM

America has received a wake-up call. We are well on our way toward anarchy. The president’s rhetoric is not helping. He doesn’t understand what poverty entails. His business began with a million dollar gift from his father. He never served in the military so he didn’t have the opportunity to learn that whether you are black or white, you serve together and could die together. His saber-rattling is not going to solve the long-range problem. The photo op of him holding a Bible in front of the National Cathedral testifies to his hypocrisy.

The death of George Floyd was tragic and hard to watch. The black community protest was and is justified; but, like all well-meaning protests, the anarchists seized the opportunity to loot and destroy public and private businesses. I watched the video of Spokane streets being overrun by 20 or more young thugs; most of whom were white.

Our elected officials need to seek middle ground and correct a problem that is growing in America. Most officials have never experienced poverty. The COVID-19 virus has caused up to 40 million Americans to be out of work and they will not remain calm when they begin to lose their homes. Supporting existing small businesses and investing in work programs similar to the CCCs is far better than building more jails. Congress should heed Warren Buffett’s advice.
