Bayley to make PGA debut at

Barracuda Championship

Derek Bayley, the Lakeland High product, will tee off in the opening round of the PGA Tour’s Barracuda Championship today at 1:50 p.m.

Bayley, paired with Eric Axley and Rhein Gibson, will start on the 10th hole today at Old Greenwood in Truckee, Calif.

The tourney uses a modified stableford scoring format, which awards 2 points for a birdie, 0 for a par, 5 for an eagle, 8 for a double eagle, minus 1 point for a bogey and minus 3 points for a double bogey or worse.

Bayley qualified for the tournament with a win in the Golden State Tour’s Reno Open on June 25.

The Barracuda Championship will be broadcast on The Golf Channel starting today at 4 p.m.

Lewis-Clark State adds Broyles to women’s hoops

Moscow High product Hannah Broyles will join the Lewis-Clark State women’s basketball team after playing as a freshman at Treasure Valley Community College, coach Brian Orr announced.

The 5-8 shooting guard averaged 14.6 points per game at Treasure Valley.

She prepped at Moscow High School under coach Karlee Wilson, who now coaches at Lewiston High. Broyles was a three-sport athlete for the Bears and was all-league in soccer, tennis and basketball.

“Honestly, the night she put up 34 points on the Bengals at Booth Hall we moved her to the top of recruiting list,” Orr said. “Her athleticism and fearless style are two things about her game that really stand out.”

Broyles is the third student-athlete to sign for the 2020-21 season, joining Callie Stevens and Maddie Holm.
