LEGION BASEBALL: Lums split twinbill

COEUR d’ALENE — Coeur d’Alene pitcher Troy Shepard struck out nine over six innings in a complete game shutout as the Lumbermen beat the Spokane Cannons 10-0 in the first game of a Legion doubleheader on Wednesday at Thorco Field.

Shepard allowed two hits, and did not allow a baserunner after the third inning.

Landen Thompson had two hits and three RBIs for Coeur d’Alene. Alex Karns — who hit a solo home in the sixth inning — Payton Childers and Breyson Coppess also had two hits apiece for Coeur d’Alene in the first game.

In the nightcap, Spokane scored five runs in the third and sixth inning to beat the Lums 16-4 to get a split.

Coeur d’Alene (11-15-1) hosts the Spokane Expos at Thorco Field on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
