Rapist gets six years

Judge Cynthia Meyer last week sentenced 21-year-old Nathan Tyler Granger to six years incarceration and 20 years of supervision for multiple sex offenses, including rape.

In February, Granger pleaded guilty to rape, lewd conduct with a minor, and possession of child porn in exchange for an agreement to dismiss another felony. At that time, prosecutors agreed to dismiss one count of forcible penetration in exchange for the other guilty pleas.

In September 2019, a 16-year-old girl reported to friends that Granger had raped her at his apartment near the 200 block of Shelby Lane. An acquaintance of the girl said Granger had done a similar thing to her, and apparently due to this information, the girl decided to report Granger to police.

The girl went to Kootenai Health for an assault examination and stated to police that she had been raped by Granger four days earlier.

During an interview with police, Granger spoke extensively about the incident. Granger was recorded saying such things as, “Maybe I took it too far,” and “Maybe she didn’t want it.” And that he “May have raped her.” At that time, he admitted to intercourse with the underage girl, but insisted it was consensual.

During the interview, Granger mentioned an earlier incident in which he brought a 14-year-old girl to Skate Plaza and her father “caused a scene.” In this incident, the girl’s father reported Granger had abducted her, but no report was filed, as the girl was not cooperative.

Granger was arrested Sept. 10, 2019, after speaking to police. His phone was taken into evidence.

Police documents say that after Granger’s arrest for rape, he confessed to having sex with an additional girl, who was 14 at the time, and had sexually explicit images of her that they would find on his phone.

This information would lead to the additional charges and conviction for child pornography.

Granger is being held in Kootenai County jail awaiting transport to Idaho State Board of Correction.
