Nelvina Cuperus Marshall Matthews, 83
Nelvina Cuperus Marshall Matthews was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, last week at the age of 83. She was born to Pete and Nellie Cuperus in rural northwest Iowa, on Nov. 23, 1936, and died at her home in Coeur d’Alene, on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, of natural causes.
Although she was a transplant to Idaho via Washington and Michigan, she would always be an “Iowa Girl.” “Nelvie” was the youngest daughter of six kids and grew up in Hull, Iowa. She graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, then left for beauty school in Sioux City, where she became a trusted hairdresser, met her first husband and had her first son. In 1966, the Boeing company moved the family to Federal Way, Wash., where she continued to raise her family and, eventually, own her own beauty shop.
After some life events, she moved to Michigan to be closer to her brother and other family members. She then went back to Washington state, where she eventually met her husband, Larry Matthews. She spent her last years happily taking care of her loving husband and being a great-grandma in their family home.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Larry Matthews; her sister, Ruth of Hull; her sons Lance and Kelly Marshall of Clarkston, Wash., and Ocala, Fla.; along with five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as several loved nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 25, 2020, at Foundation Baptist Church in Coeur d’Alene.
