Person leads pros after first day of Project Cutthroat event
A crowded leaderboard has five people within three shots of the lead at the Project Cutthroat disc golf tournament at Farragut State Park.
Jared Person was first among all pros for the day, shooting a 4-under-par 63 on Saturday.
“I was pretty clean off the tee pad, which is important on a big course like Cutthroat,” Person said.
Two players ended the day at -2 — Ross Leu and Josh Williamson.
“I had three bogeys I wish I could get back,” Williamson said. “Tomorrow is a new day.”
Brandon Green, Jace Foster and Jack Griffing all finished at -1, while Edwin Rodriquez, Jeremy Sauve and A.C. Flint all finished at even par.
Volunteer members of tournament host Project Farragut spent weeks prior to the tournament performing maintenance on holes No. 1, 10 and 13. Players said these additions really helped improve the overgrown and challenging course.
“The limbing and mowing gave it a world-class look,” Person said.
Two age-restricted professional divisions also competed. For the pros 40 years of age and older, Charlie Walker (-1) held a two-shot lead over Raymond Tweedy. In the 50 and over group, Paul Stiller (+8) has a two-shot advantage over Bretty Penney.
Only professional players could compete in Project Cutthroat, which concludes today. Project Farragut will film the lead card, which tees up at 9:20 a.m. Tee times start at 8:30, and spectators are welcome to attend.
