A local disc golf tournament in Farragut State Park finished competition Saturday afternoon.

The Project Northstar tournament at Farragut’s Northstar disc golf course offered various levels of competition catered to skill level including advanced, intermediate and recreational divisions, and featured multiple categories such as women’s, over 50, boys under 18 and girls under 18.

The advanced division was closely contested the entire way with six participants finishing within three strokes of first place. Tyler Gamboa from Spokane ultimately captured the title by shooting a 5-under-par 49 and a 1-under 53 for a total of -6 (102) on the afternoon.

Gamboa managed to hold off a comeback attempt by Corey Foss who shot even par (54) in the first round followed by a -5 (49) in the second round.

“I just tried to stay on fairways because Northstar is pretty rough if you get in the trees,” Gamboa said. “If you stay clean and play up the middle you’ll get a lot birdie looks that way.”

Dani Peterson won the women’s division with a 13-over 121, Jeff Crum won the over 50 with +3 (111), Ethan Fish won the boys under 18 division with +10 (118), and Kyla Meyer won the girls under 18 division with +46 (154).

Some participants mentioned the tournament was a first for them, and applauded the friendliness of other participants.

“This is my first tournament since I started playing last fall,” recreational player Noah Kearl said. “Farragut is awesome and people are very welcoming.”
