LEGION BASEBALL: Prairie suffers pair of hard-luck losses

| July 12, 2020 1:02 AM

POST FALLS — The Prairie Cardinals led in both games, but faltered late in 9-5 and 7-5 losses to the Moscow Blue Devils in nonleague American Legion baseball Saturday at Post Falls High.

Prairie (1-6) led 5-4 heading into the seventh inning of the opener, only to see Moscow score five runs.

“We couldn’t make a play,” Prairie coach Mick Zeller said. “We had bases loaded, two outs, two strikes on the kid, up 5-4, and we hit him with a curveball.”

In the second game, the Cardinals led 5-2 after three innings. Prairie committed four errors in each game; seven of the Blue Devils’ 16 runs on the day were unearned.

“I’m happy that we were in both games,” Zeller said. “We led both games, and our pitching was a lot better than in other games. But, too many errors.”

Spencer Zeller went 6 for 8 on the day for Post Falls, including 4 for 4 with two doubles in the opener. Zach Clark drove in a pair of runs in each game.

Prairie is scheduled to play host to the Moses Lake Studs in a doubleheader Friday at 3 p.m. at Post Falls High.
