No picnic in the park

HARRISON — For the first time in nearly seven decades, there will not be a Harrison Old Time Picnic.

The annual event, held in Harrison since 1953, was canceled due to coronavirus concerns, said Fred Muhs, chairman of the Harrison Old Time Picnic Committee.

It was set for July 26

A parade and children’s activities that go along with it have also been canceled.

The volunteer-run Harrison Old Time Picnic at Harrison City Park is generally crowded and benefits the city’s businesses.

Muhs said the committee members struggled with the decision but felt it was best for the health of the community.
