A Coeur d’Alene man was recently arrested for allegedly trafficking methamphetamine, destruction and concealment of evidence, and the introduction of major contraband into a correctional facility.

The felonies carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Rex J. Williams, 38, was taken into custody last Thursday. Police say he sold more than two ounces of methamphetamine weekly in Kootenai County.

Idaho State Police Trooper Brady Walker stopped Williams on June 25 for failure to use a signal when crossing a two-way left-turn lane.

In conversation, Walker discovered that Williams was bleeding significantly from his left hand, according to court records.

During a drug sweep, a K-9 unit alerted officers to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, including a broken glass pipe with usable pieces of methamphetamine in the bowl, police said.

Upon arrival at the Kootenai County Pubic Safety Building, law officers found that Williams had retrieved two bags of methamphetamine from his person and attempted to destroy it, but ripped the bags. After collecting the white crystalline material scattered across the back seat of the police vehicle, officers recovered 36.8 grams of methamphetamine, court records said.

While being detained, Williams permitted the police to search through the messages on his cellphone, revealing several conversations indicating large-scale narcotics distribution, according to court records.

Williams later admitted to distributing drugs, including methamphetamine and oxycodone, police said.

Williams was in Kootenai County jail on $250,000 bail.
