TRIAL: Ukraine questions

| January 31, 2020 12:00 AM

The impeachment trial of President Trump focuses on one topic: The Ukraine. This, to my mind, raises two questions:

1) Why did then-President Obama give military help to the Ukraine, when Russia invaded the Crimea?

2) Why did Russia invade the Ukraine?

Partial answer: When the Soviet Union dissolved, borders weren’t necessarily fixed perfectly. The Crimean portion of the Ukraine contained a majority of Russians. They wanted to be annexed into Russia, which bordered them to the east. From Russia’s point of view, that was justification for their invasion. From our point of view this was wrong. President Trump has given the Ukraine a lot of military hardware. Former President Obama didn’t give them any. Why?
