Lakeland girls topple Moscow

- GIRLS BASKETBALL

RATHDRUM — Katy Ryan fought off double teams to record 12 points and eight rebounds, and the Lakeland Hawks avenged a loss to Moscow by beating the Bears 44-25 in 4A Inland Empire League play Friday night at Hawk Court.

Lakeland lost 33-29 at Moscow on Wednesday night.

“We practiced not settling for the one pass, one shot. We tried to attack the basket a little more, instead of four girls standing around,” Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. “I thought we did a good job moving to the open spot, taking the 3 when it was a good shot, and finding a teammate when it wasn’t.”

Mel Loutzenhiser scored eight of her 10 points in the second half for Lakeland (6-12, 1-2 4A IEL). She also had six assists. Addie Kiefer had seven points and seven boards, and Hailey Tingey had three steals off the bench for the Hawks.

Ryan and Loutzenhiser each scored six points in the third quarter as Lakeland outscored Moscow (1-11, 1-1) 18-5 after leading by five points at the half.

Lakeland plays host to Sandpoint for senior night on Tuesday, looking to avenge a 55-43 loss at Sandpoint last week.

“This time, we have to do a better job accounting for their outside shooters,” Seymour said.

Dawson Driggs and Maddie Morgan combined to score 33 points for the Bulldogs in the last meeting.
