PREP ROUNDUP: St. Maries pulls away from Bonners Ferry

ST. MARIES — After a sluggish start, a strong second quarter and early third-quarter run led St. Maries to a comfortable victory over visiting Bonners Ferry on Monday night in the makeup game of a Dec. 20 postponement.
Eli Gibson scored 15 points and had three assists for the Lumberjacks (9-4), while Coleman Ross added 12 points, 9 rebounds and 8 steals. Overall, St. Maries forced 27 Badger turnovers.
“We had a good second quarter, then had an 11-0 run to start the third quarter,” Lumberjacks coach Bryan Chase said.
Braden Blackmore led Bonners Ferry with nine points.
Randie Becktel added 10 points for St. Maries, which hosts Orofino on Saturday.

COEUR d’ALENE — The shorthanded Royals lost their first Mountain Christian League game of the year to the visiting Oaks of Spokane Valley.
Spencer Christensen scored 23 points, and Isaiah Guillen and David Love had 12 each for The Oaks.
Jack Hill led NICS with 18 points. The Royals (13-4, 9-1 MCL) return to action tonight at Covenant Christian in Spokane.

COEUR d’ALENE — On senior night, Imelda Bresee scored 24 points, snared 14 rebounds, had four steals and even played the “Star-Spangled Banner” on violin as the Royals rolled to a Mountain Christian League victory at Holy Family School.
Danica Kelly added eight points and six assists for North Idaho Christian (14-5, 10-0 MCL), which travels to Covenant Christian today.
Sam Palpant led The Oaks with 10 points.
