NEIGHBORHOOD OF THE WEEK: Trees and convenience on Thomas Lane in Cd’A

I grew up in a neighborhood just off Thomas Lane in Coeur d’Alene, conveniently located east of 15th Street and within reasonable walking distance to Canfield Middle School and Coeur d’Alene High School (my parents made me walk at least).

While it’s still brimming with towering trees (especially beautiful after snowfall), I remember many snow adventures in the now developed area north of Thomas (Bentwood Park) that was then just populated with trees and bike jumps.

I often wondered why there wasn’t a Bruce Lane or Martha Lane in the area as well. It would have made for a sweet, albeit grim Batman reference, but I guess there’s a reason why nobody asks me to name roads.

Though no family members currently live around Thomas Lane, I do enjoy visiting, especially after snowfall, to see what’s available on the real estate front.

Neighborhood of the Week has featured the area’s newer draw, Alpine Point at Canfield Mountain, a couple of times, most notably with a full feature in summer 2018. The development, shepherded by Aspen Homes, has filled in nicely with quality, craftsman-style homes mostly in the size range of 2,000 to 3,000 square feet, though many large trees remain throughout the neighborhood.

Development continues at Alpine Point, with a few homes under construction based on several floor plan options offered by Aspen Homes. There are a couple of active listings in the system, though you can reach out to Scott Carr of Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty at 208-640-0464 for more information. Previous and current listings range in price from about $500,000 to $600,000.

The Alpine Point page on AspenHomes.com also includes more detailed information on the floor plans and attractive standard features. In short, they seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to homebuilding.

As is often the case, there are currently no active listings on existing properties in Bentwood Park, the ex-bike jump neighborhood north of Thomas Lane, though a four-bedroom, 2,300-square-foot home listed as pending near Shadduck Lane Park in the adjacent Canfield Park neighborhood was listed at just under $400,000.

South of Thomas, however, has a few current options, including a three-bedroom, 1,600-square-foot townhome listed for $245,000 near Thomas Lane between 17th and 19th streets. A three-bedroom home with 1,700-plus square feet in my old stomping grounds of Pine Hill Drive hit the market a few days ago priced at $360,000.

Keep heading east on Thomas and then south on 22nd Street to find a larger available property — a four-bedroom, 2,500-plus-square-foot property listed for just under $425,000. Check out Alpine Point to the north on Thomas Hill Drive, or you can go south and peek into the Foothills development, another spot where residents tend to stay for a long time.

Snow or not, all these neighborhoods have that distinct North Idaho flavor, with many properties touting views of Canfield Mountain. The proximity to 15th Street and the nearby schools also make it a popular area for families.

They could use some more Batman-themed road names though.
