Upland game proposals head to commission

| January 16, 2020 12:00 AM

Idaho Fish and Game doesn’t plan any changes in the upland game seasons in the Clearwater, but it proposes an archery-only game animal and upland bird season that will be consistent with the archery white-tailed deer season on Farragut State Park and Wildlife Management Area.

So far, the proposal, which would open a season between Nov. 1 and Dec. 1, has the support of 84 percent of the 49 people who commented to Fish and Game, according to the department.

The proposal will be recommended to the Fish and Game commissioner at its regular Jan. 23 meeting in Boise.

In addition, the department will recommend adding units 7 and 9 to the list of units open to general turkey hunting seasons in spring and fall. Because turkeys are wide-spread throughout the Panhandle the rule change would simplify regulations, according to the department.

Of 51 comments gathered by Fish and Game, 96 percent supported extending the units, Fish and Game said.
