Quartet will entertain in 2 concerts Saturday

| January 16, 2020 12:00 AM

The Coeur d’Alene Symphony’s “Saturday with the Symphony” concerts on Jan. 18 feature a tuba/euphonium quartet named partly because most of the original players were electrical engineers who couldn’t resist the engineering connotations of the name: Scalable Processor Architectur: SPARC.

Current players are Jerry Olson on tuba (Head Engineer at KPBX); Leonard Burne on tuba (tuba player with Spokane Symphony); John Church on euphonium (principal trombone with Spokane Symphony); and Kit Cutler on euphonium (manager of the Spokane British Brass Band). They will be performing classical, light jazz, polkas, novelty pieces and popular tunes of all kinds.

These monthly concerts, which are free and open to the public, are made possible by TDS Telecom and by Paul and Susan Kennedy. The concert at the library kicks off at 10:30 a.m. and is suitable for all ages (dancing encouraged), followed by a repeat at Kootenai Health’s main entrance at 12:30 p.m.
