Kellogg overtakes St. Maries in Brawl for the Ball spirit game
ST. MARIES — St. Maries had the momentum after the first quarter in the annual Brawl for the Ball spirit game against visiting Kellogg after the first quarter.
The Wildcats took it, and didn’t give it back, erasing an early deficit for a 57-37 win at St. Maries High. The Lumberjacks won the Ball.
Coleman Ross scored 11 points for St. Maries (7-4), which led 19-14 after the first quarter before losing starting center Tristan Gentry to a concussion in the second quarter and scoring 18 points the rest of the game.
“We got off to a great start and had a great first quarter,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said. “After our center got hurt, the momentum changed quickly, and we never quite recovered. We didn’t do a good job of rebounding or taking care of the basketball. We were settling for shots instead of going right after them.”
Brandon Miller scored 12 points for Kellogg (5-4), which hosts Wallace on Wednesday.
“Kellogg did a good job of pressuring our guards and turning us over,” Chase said.
St. Maries (7-4) opens Central Idaho League play at Grangeville next Saturday.
