LEWISTON — Dylan Lovett scored 12 of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Post Falls Trojans pulled away to defeat the Lewiston Bengals 57-39 in a 5A Inland Empire League game at Booth Hall on Friday.

“It was kind of an ugly, sloppy game,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “It was a real physical, rag-tag game. Defensively, we just buckled down and got some stops. Post Falls outscored Lewiston 18-7 in the fourth quarter.

“We just kind of gutted one out,” Allert said. “We just made some plays when we needed to.”

Laney Smith scored 10 points for Post Falls (9-5, 1-0 5A IEL), which hosts Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

Caitlin Richardson scored 12 points for Lewiston (2-10, 0-2).

LEWISTON — A tying shot by Post Falls with under five seconds remaining bounced off the rim to the Bengals, who outlasted the Trojans in the 5A Inland Empire League opener for both at Booth Hall.

“We got outrebounded by 12, and you can’t let a team get that many more rebounds and hope to win in this league,” Post Falls coach Mike McLean said. “They did what they needed to to beat us tonight.”

Colby Gennett scored 14 points, Caden McLean 11 points for Post Falls (12-3), which was without starting point guard Cole Rutherford, who injured his ankle in Wednesday’s game against Rogers.

“It was just a grind, and Lewiston really tried to grind this game out,” Mike McLean said. “We didn’t play at our best, and if you’re not at your best in this league, it’s going to be tough. I was proud of the guys effort, and we did everything we needed to do to stay in this game, but missed too many open shots.”

It was Post Falls’ first league loss since 2015-16. The Trojans had won 18 straight league games. Post Falls hosts Lake City next Friday.

Jace McKarcher scored 18 points for Lewiston (9-2).
