No threat found at Lakeland High

| January 8, 2020 10:13 AM

The Rathdrum Police Department, Kootenai Sheriff’s Office and Idaho State Police are reportedly still checking Lakeland High School for the rapidly decreasing likelihood of a threat.

First reports from a Lakeland teacher reported what sounded like gunfire forced Lakeland High School and the neighboring North Idaho Stem Academy into lockdown. First responders are still securing the building and conducting a second sweep to ensure no students, faculty or staff are at risk.

No one is injured, though paramedics are on scene, just in case,

Crystal Hanson of Hauser has a daughter who is finishing up her senior year at Lakeland.

“My daughter texted me and asked, ‘Is this real?’” Hansen said from the highway just outside the school perimeter.

No one is allowed on the Lakeland High School premises until authorities have given the all-clear, and no timetable has yet been given for an all-clear. Some parents at the scene have been briefed on the situation.

Here is what Lakeland Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer has shared with parents:

“A classroom teacher thought she heard shots fired and initiated a lockdown. Law enforcement is on campus and checking for safety concerns. No evidence of any threat has been found. Law enforcement and LHS Admin are meticulously checking the building. Once the building has been cleared, I will email with an update.”
