‘State of the District’ to highlight education

| February 27, 2020 1:00 AM

The Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership presents the eighth annual State of the District Community Forum, in partnership with Coeur d’Alene School District.

The event is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 at Innovation Collective, 418 Lakeside Ave.

The theme is “Growing Into the Future As A Community United, Inclusive, and Equitable.” Parents, teachers, students, and community members are invited to attend.

“Planning for the future and, in doing so, reducing overcrowding and providing the best learning environment possible is the goal that drives the endeavors of the Long-Range Planning Committee,“ said Jerry Anderson, 2019-2020 LRPC Chair. “Equity in our classrooms is further achieved with each of our building projects.”

There will be opportunities after each segment for brief question and answer sessions.”

The program will begin with an update by Superintendent Dr. Steven Cook on district efforts in response to the gaps and inequalities identified in the curriculum audit of last February. Cook will also present the status of the school boundary review.

Since September, the Coeur d’Alene School District has been working to address the pressures of population growth, shifting demographics, and equitable access to educational opportunity.

Last March, the community approved an increase of $4 million in levy funds to support improved campus safety and student supports for social and emotional well-being.

Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership is honored to recognize this year’s student recipients of the annual SPEAK Awards, to recognize “Students Performing Extraordinary Acts of Kindness.” During the State of the District, a SPEAK award will be presented to an elementary school student, a middle school student, and a high school student.

The evening will conclude with a panel discussion, including student, staff, and Long-Range Planning Committee representation, about future district growth through the lens of equity and accessibility.
